Having grown up in a typical Southern California suburb in the late 70s and early 80s, seeing these housing developments crop up outside of historic villages and towns in rural France fills me equally with aesthetic nostalgia (with their even, and almost undulating blocks and panels of walls, door, fences and American-style sidewalks), and dread (with their even, and almost undulating blocks and panels of walls, door, fences and American-style sidewalks).
